A Notebook of Pins - An Exhibition of Jewels of Kevin Coates
A Notebook of Pins

Kevin Coates has been referred to as Britain’s Leonardo, for his Renaissance attitude to working and his masterful imagination. In an illustrious career that has spanned over three decades, Coates has exhibited all over the world and his work is held in numerous prestigious public and private collections including the Victoria and Albert Museum, the British Museum, H.R.H. the Prince of Wales, 10 Downing Street and the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, Massachusetts, among many others.

Coates is renowned for creating astonishingly complex works of art. His pieces describe the pathos and magic of the human experience. His jewels, table pieces and trophies conjure up birds and beasts, mythic creatures, spirits and archetypes, and have an almost mystical quality.

The 20 pins in this exhibition were conceived while Coates was Associate Artist at The Wallace Collection Museum, London. While some are inspired by long term fascinations, such as Time and Mozart (Coates is also a musician) several draw specifically from artworks in the Collection which has been a source of inspiration to Coates since he was a student.

Kevin Coates will visit the gallery on Saturday 14 November 2009 to talk about his exhibition and his love of Mozart, to book tickets please contact the Gallery on 01909 501700.
