Newark Millgate Museum
Newark Millgate Museum is housed in a former oil seed mill built in 1870 in a picturesque setting on the banks of the River Trent. The museum opened in 1976 and is part of the Millgate Conservation Area, an area of great historical and architectural interest. The museum displays are spread over several floors, accessed only by stairs. There is a cafe on the ground floor serving light refreshments, with a view of boats passing on the river.

Newark Millgate Museum is a casual ten minute walk from Newark Market Place and is home to diverse Social History Collections. The Museum has fun education activities for children and fascinating exhibitions including streets, shops and rooms in period settings.

The Mezzanine Gallery within the museum is a venue for temporary exhibitions featuring the work of local and national artists, designers and photographers and provides members of the public with the opportunity to purchase unique artwork. Newark Millgate Museum also operates a fine Research Service and provides local people with the chance to get involved with museum work via our Friends and Volunteer Groups.

Fugitives Fleurs (FREE)
16th January to 28th February 2010

Fresh from its Far East tour, fugitives fleurs returns to England for this six week exhibition at the Newark Millgate Museum.

In this compelling and evocative exhibition, Singapore artist Joyce Wye Ho explores the floral fragment as a vector of emotion, time and identity in her photography.

Her macro images capture and celebrate the ephemeral and the poetic transience of life. They are a revelation of luminous colours and abstract, often ethereal forms, offering a glimpse into unseen worlds and trajectories.

Opening times:

Tuesday to Friday 10.30 am – 4.00 pm
Saturday and Sunday 1.00 pm – 4.00 pm

Cost: FREE
