Newstead Abbey

Newstead Abbey is a beautiful historic house converted from a monastery, set in extensive formal gardens and parkland. It is the former home of the poet Lord Byron, and many of his possessions can still be seen.

Newstead Abbey is located off the main A60 between Nottingham and Mansfield.

Newstead Abbey's landscape owes much of its beauty to the River Leen, which feeds the lakes, ponds and cascades that ornament Newstead's gardens. These gardens and parkland cover more than 300 acres. The grounds will be open from 9.00am until 6.00pm.

Admission is free for BBC Radio Nottingham's Big Day Out but you MUST visit http://news.bbc.co.uk/local/nottingham/hi/tv_and_radio/newsid_8543000/8543911.stm and take a print out of the page in order to get in. Please note that the house is not open on the day.
