Mansfield Museum

This dynamic museum and art gallery contains a fascinating mix of permanent displays of local art and artefacts.  Let the exquisite Buxton watercolours take you back to the turn of the Century.  Savour the delicate beauty of the Pinxton procelain.  Discover a new green world in the hands on XplorActive environment gallery.  A child-friendly atmosphere encourages visits by younger people and their carers. Changing exhibitions aimed at all sectors of local society aim to keep the Museum a relevant player in Mansfield's cultural life and ensure that there is always something new to see.

Education in its broadest sense is a core activity, driving aspects as diverse as our extensive Schools Education Service, Growing Bolder, our programme for those 60 and over and ArtBeat, our wide ranging holiday workshops for children of all ages.

Happy Days
Saturday 7 August - Saturday 27 November 2010

Our Summer Exhibition this year takes a nostalgic look back at the pleasures of being a child.

‘Happy Days’ will feature children’s playthings; playground games and rhymes; reading matter from comics to Harry Potter; TV, radio and cinema as well as hobbies and pets. A selection of photos will also consider the changing face of childhood through the ages.

The exhibition will include plenty of activities for even the tiniest visitors, including a sand-pit and a toy corner with lots to keep your young charges occupied whilst you reminisce about your own younger days.

Two special events linked to ‘Happy Days’ and open to schools are ‘Twenty Minute Tales’ and a repeat of last year’s extremely popular ‘Cool Choirs’. These week-long musical and dramatic celebrations will be performed by local primary schools. If you are a teacher and want to be involved in either or both of these non-competitive, fun festivals, simply call us for full details.
