National Ice Centre

National Ice Centre

Opened in 2000 by Olympic Champion Jayne Torvill, the £43 million National Ice Centre was the first twin Olympic-sized (60m x 30m) ice rink facility in the UK.

The National Ice Centre is also the home of Capital FM Arena Nottingham – East Midlands hottest concert venue hosting the very best live music & sporting events to audiences up to 10,000.

Session Information

Ice skating is a cool experience whatever your age or ability and where better to give it a go than at the National Ice Centre – the UK’s centre for excellence for ice sports. There are a range of ice skating sessions on offer to suit all ages and abilities.

Parent and Toddler Sessions

Children aged between 18 months and five years can take part, with sessions aimed at building confidence and co-ordination whilst having fun with toys on the ice. These run on Mondays and Wednesdays 1.15 – 1.45pm and Sundays 10 – 10.45, with access to the remaining public session. We recommend that you arrive 20mins prior to the session you are attending.

Club Night
Friday night is our Club Night – tasty beats, resident and guest DJs, neon lights and strobes

R&B Night
If you love your R&B vibes then the National Ice Centre is the place to be on a Wednesday night.

Socialice
A fantastic session especially for adults, taking place between 10-11.30am on a Tuesday and Thursday when we have two ice pads in operation (see ice schedule for information). This will give over 18’s the chance to have a relaxed skate, sharpen their skills and meet up with friends.

Please take a look at our timetable for further information about session times. Please note extra sessions are put on during school holidays please visit www.national-ice-centre.com for more details.

What you need to know

Food and Drink

Once you’ve skated till your hearts content, why not relax and recharge your batteries with a tasty snack or hot drink in the T&D Cafe Bar or Icebreakers. Both offer a wide selection of food and drink – from burgers and hot dogs in Icebreakers or pastries and sandwiches in T&D Cafe Bar. Vending machines are also situated around the venue for your convenience.

Skate Hire

Before you hit the ice you’ll need one essential item – your ice skates! Pick up your boots from Skate Hire which is just next to the Capital One Ice Rink. We have over 1,500 pairs of skates in a variety of sizes from baby 5 to adult 14. At busy sessions, demand is high for skates so please bear with us during these times. You can also buy your own skates from our shop.

Lockers

Keep all your personal belongings safe while you’re on the ice by placing them in one of our lockers. These are located in the skate hire area at a charge of 50p per opening (by purchasing a token from one of the machines).

What to wear

Comfortable, warm clothes are essential if you are coming ice skating along with a pair of cosy socks! It is quite chilly on the ice but once you start whizzing around the rink you’ll soon warm up. Wearing a few layers is a good idea so you can take off or add clothing when you need to. A pair of gloves might also come in useful.

Car Parking

There is no on site car parking at the National Ice Centre but don’t worry – the venue is easily accessible by foot, road, rail, tram and even via Nottingham East Midlands Airport. But if you are driving there are 1,120 car parking spaces within five minutes’ walk of the centre.
