Buddha Maitreya was born and brought up in Handa, Japan, has an MA in Buddhist Theology and lived the life of a Zen monk for a time. Pureland was born in 1973 as a base for the teaching of meditation and provides a peaceful and beautiful garden for guests and visitors to the centre to enjoy.
The area was originally two acres of flat field and wilderness, work began in 1980 to transform the site into the beautiful garden it is today. The atmosphere of the garden reflects Maitreya's meditaion teaching - self awareness, peace and harmony with nature. Winding paths follow around rocks, and traditional Japanese features such as bridges, moss, bamboos, cloud topiary and stone lanterns combine to form a garden which has a different view from every twist and turn of the path. Water forms an integral part of the design with a large pool with beautiful carp.
Buddha Maitreya has received numerous awards in creating this stunning garden and it is featured in a number of respected publications.

Come and enjoy an enchanting afternoon in the beautiful surroundings of Pure Land Japanese Garden. Maitreya will perform his own enlightening songs including lyrics that include a profound meaning, which reveal hidden depths each time you listen to the beautiful words. Maitreya will also recite his own delightful Haiku, teach some meditation and talk about the importance of spiritual awakening. It is the time for spiritual evolution of mankind, and the human race has arrived at the dawn of a new spiritual age, with a less materialistic approach to life.
Maitreya says: "The Nature's Heart that produces wonder and beauty in creation is in fact our own heart. Nature and our self are one. When we respect nature we respect our self, when we love nature we love our self. When we love our self we love all, and the world will be a different place."
"It is the original nature that paradise truly is. It is our original self that Buddha truly is. I am confident of bringing awakened consciousness to the audience at the concert!"
The materialistic way of life that the human race has been engaged in up to now has never brought peace and happiness to the world, but only brought destruction, conflict and suffering. Only by awakening the truth in our self and taking a spiritually oriented way of life can we change the world and fulfil the purpose of human existence on Earth. And now so many people are ready for this, which I call the "Spiritual Revolution of Man".
Also, I'd like to encourage young people to join me at the concert, as what I teach is for a new world"
“What a wonderful afternoon spent in the company of Buddha Maitreya at his concert - he is such a special person and his faith in his message is awesome and inspiring. A truly magical experience that made me feel exhilarated yet peaceful at the same time” Sarah Gravelle
"In this busy world of doing and striving Buddha Maitreya’s Nature's Heart concert was a refreshing gem of wisdom that all in this materialistic world should enjoy. Awakening to joy and lifting the way we feel about our lives and our world is so important as we navigate through life. I wholeheartly recommend Buddha Maitreya’s approach and can’t wait to visit his garden" Elizabeth Villani, Coach and Author of “Awakening”.
