Nottingham City Centre

Nottingham City Centre is the central area of Nottingham, and the Greater Nottingham conurbation as a whole. The area has seen a great deal of investment and redevelopment in recent years and is consistently rated amongst the top five shopping districts in the United Kingdom (outside of London).  It is where the city's major railway station, Council House and main shopping centres are located. Nottingham Express Transit trams run through the area, terminating at Station Street.

The undisputed central feature of the city centre is the Old Market Square, right at the heart of the city. This is undergone a major redevelopment programme which was completed in March 2007. Most of the main shopping streets are based around the square which is dominated by The Council House, whose landmark dome can be seen for miles around. Much of the ground floor of the Council House is taken up by the Exchange Arcade, a shopping centre of boutique stores.

A thriving bohemian quarter of the city known as Hockley has arisen in recent years, situated close to the Lace Market area.

10 Dec: Lights of Love (FREE)
10th December 2010

We warmly invite you, your family and friends to join us at one of our Lights of Love events taking place across the UK at 7.30 on Friday 10th December. There is no charge to attend and everyone is welcome.

At Christmas, with so much emphasis on children, families, sharing happy times together, feelings of grief for the loss of a child can often seem even more acute.

Once again we are inviting you to sponsor a light on our Lights of Love Christmas trees at St Peter's Church, St Peter's Square, Nottingham. You can choose to have your light and message tag at any of the six locations. If you are unable to attend a service you can still sponsor a light and have a message card put on the tree on your behalf.

Sands is a national charity whose aims are to:- support anyone affected by the death of a baby; work in partnership with health professionals to ensure that bereaved parents and families receive the best possible care and promote and fund research that could help to reduce the loss of babies’ lives.

Time:  7.30 pm

For more information, please contact Sue Hale on 0845 6520 443.
