NEW LOCATION FOR NOTTINGHAM STATION CAR PARK AS HUB REDEVELOPMENT SCHEME GETS UNDERWAY

The first major phase of Nottingham’s multi-million pound station redevelopment will shortly be getting underway with work starting on a new 950 space multi-storey car park for the station.

Whilst work is taking place on the development of the new multi-storey facility, passengers are advised that station car parking will be moved to a new location.

The current station car park will be closed for a 12 month period from Sunday 30 January 2011, and alternative passenger car parking will be available in the temporary railway station car park, located at the Sovereign House multi-storey car park on Sheriffs Way.

Paul Hanley, Station Manager for East Midlands Trains at Nottingham, said: “We welcome the start of this significant station redevelopment scheme which will deliver new and improved facilities for our passengers.

“We are committed to continuing to provide a high quality service for our passengers throughout the works, and the provision of the alternative station car park will ensure that passengers using the railway station will still be able to park easily.”

Steve Ray, area general manager for Network Rail, added: “These are the first physical works for what is a significant and important investment for rail passengers in Nottingham. After many months of planning it is pleasing to see work begin. We will be working closely with East Midlands trains to make sure that passengers are kept informed and that any inconvenience is kept to a minimum.”

The temporary car park facility will be managed by Network Rail for the benefit of East Midlands Trains’ customers as part of the Nottingham Hub project.

This is the first significant phase of the railway station redevelopment. Future works to the main station buildings will provide new and enhanced passenger and operational facilities including a new ticket office, waiting rooms, shops and cafes. A new concourse will also be built to enable an improved passenger interchange connecting with lines two and three of the tram extension (NET Phase Two). The railway station work is due to be completed by 2014.
