Lakeside Arts Centre

Lakeside, the University of Nottingham’s public arts centre, has established an enviable reputation for its year round programme of high quality exhibitions, music, theatre, dance, comedy and participatory events, appealing to audiences from across the region. Lakeside’s work with children and young people - including 3 youth theatre groups, summer schools, and regular Sunday Best theatre provision - has gained enormously in popularity and regularly attracts capacity audiences.

In addition, Lakeside promotes a number of eagerly anticipated annual events including Chinese New Year celebrations, the International Children’s Theatre and Dance Festival, and LUSTRE - the Midlands premier contemporary craft makers’ market. It is also a partner in the delivery of other national and regionally significant events including NOTTDANCE and Theatre Writing Partnership’s Momentum Festival.

Conveniently located on the University Park campus Lakeside houses two excellent cafes, Café L which serves homemade sandwiches, cakes, hot food and drink and Aqua, a bistro and delhi-bar serving speciality coffees, flavoured teas, wines and beers as well as sandwiches and paninis.

Lakeside is the ideal place to take time out, wind down and experience the very best visual and performing arts.

VISITOR - Igloo

Djanogly Art Gallery

igloo is the collective title of London-based artist duo Ruth Gibson and Bruno Martelli whose installations, video works, online projects and performances have featured in international exhibitions and festivals including the 52nd Venice Biennale.

Inspired by the artists’ trip to the Canadian Rockies in 2009, VISITOR consists of two newly commissioned installations which continue their investigation into the relationship between the natural and the artificial, using game engine and motion capture technologies.

Where the bears are sleeping is a video presenting a series of snow-driven landscapes evoking the beauty and strangeness of the natural world. Immersed in an unsettling stillness disturbed only by the wind and falling
snow, the viewer slowly becomes aware of a solitary presence emerging from its surroundings, appearing and disappearing amongst the woods, frozen lakes and hillsides.

Vermilion Lake, the second component of the exhibition, is a full-sized rustic wooden cabin. Once inside this sculptural installation the viewer is taken on an interactive adventure, navigating mountain scenery through the artists’ unique rendering of a three-dimensional environment.

This new exhibition plays with our apprehension of different forms of reality by bringing the exterior virtual space into the interior physical space of the gallery.
