THIS IS A PAST EVENT
29th April 2011
Mansfield Town Centre will be staging its own version of the Wacky Races as part of a special event on Royal Wedding Day, on Friday 29 April.
Organisers are appealing for local people to enter a box kart race to take place along Stockwell Gate on the morning of 29 April, which is a bank holiday. They hope to encourage local schools, scout troops, colleges, businesses and other organisations to build their own box kart to enter into the race.
Box karts, also known as soap-box karts, are usually made of steel or wood and have a seat with four wheels, arranged as a fixed rear axle, and a steerable front beam axle - usually with a very simple single central pivot.
Teams of two people are needed to take part in the race - one to push and one to steer. No motorised or pedal-powered vehicles will be allowed. Anyone interested in entering should contact Town Centre Manager Nick Turner on 01623 4637 33 or email nickturner@mansfield.gov.uk
The box kart race is just one of the events planned in the town centre on 29 April.
There will also be a huge street party in the Market Place, a giant screen showing live pictures from the Royal Wedding at Westminster Abbey, funfair rides, food vendors and a Honey Pot Craft Fair Market.
Tables will be arranged in the Market Place for people to bring along picnics or eat food from the vendors.
