Hot News from Ruddington.
136 year old steam locomotive visitor for Easter & May Day.
The Ruddington based Great Central Railway in Nottinghamshire is pleased to welcome another visiting steam locomotive this Easter. ‘Martello’* is one of around 50 tank engines built for the London Brighton & South Coast Railway at its Brighton Works in 1875. These diminutive locomotives (28 tons) were designed by William Stroudley for suburban passenger working and were known as 'Terriers'.
Withdrawn from service in 1963 the loco was bought by Billy Butlin and was displayed at his holiday camp in Ayr for a number of years before being purchased by the Bressingham Steam Museum where she was eventually restored to working order in 2002.
‘Martello’* will be running trains on Easter Sunday & Monday and then on May Day Sunday and Monday. Telephone 0115 9405705 for details.
