THIS IS A PAST EVENT
25th June 2011
There will be celebrations in Bridgford Park, West Bridgford all day, featuring practical challenges such as boot camp training, climbing and karting to stalls from welfare organisation such as the British Legion, the British Limbless Ex Service Men's Association, Help for Heroes and the Nottinghamshire Victoria Cross Committee.
We will also be joined by representatives from numerous uniformed youth orginastions such as the Scouts, Guides, and ATC. Food will be served in our mess tent, plus numerous bars and restaurants surrounding the park will be offering special discounts to armed service personnel and their families.
One of the highlights of the day will be the Salute the Soldier exhibition – a display of stories, photographs and poetry which will be created as part of an intergeneration art and living history project. If you have a story to tell about military life we want to hear about it. Contributions to the exhibition can be made either via email to arts@rushcliffe.gov.uk or via post to Rushcliffe Borough Council Civic Centre, Pavilion Road, West Bridgford, Nottingham.
As the sun sets the culmination of the event will be the council’s popular annual ‘last night of the proms’ style family concert at 7pm which has been specially moved to tie in with the day. There will be an anticipated attendance of over 2000 people, entertained by Nottingham Concert Band and guest singers with a rousing programme of popular British themed classics such as Jerusalem, Land of Hope and Glory and Rule Britannia to end the day in patriotic fashion.
