The Star Party will give visitors the chance to have a go at stargazing and take part in hands-on science activities suitable for the whole family. Experts will also be on hand to guide guests through the night sky. Fun FREE astronomy activities include:
Telescope viewing sessions with experts (weather dependant)
Hands-on science activities for all the family
Ask an astronomer
Planetarium shows (tickets for these shows will be given out on a first come first served basis)
Nocturnal wildlife displays
Find out where the Northern Lights come from
Short talks by leading astronomers
Free star guides and activity packs
This year, BBC Learning and the Stargazing LIVE team are hoping even more people get involved, with hundreds of events and Star Parties being organised from Lands End to Aberdeen with the help of partners around the country.
BBC Learning has created a range of free resources, available at events and to download from the website in January, including a new and improved Stargazing LIVE Star and Moon Guide for every beginner, collectible Planetary Activity Cards to help youngsters to learn about the Solar System; and downloadable audio and video guides to talk beginners through the process of getting to grips with astronomy.
To find out more about your nearest event, submit your own astronomy snaps or download the ever popular Star and Moon Guides to help you start your astronomy journey, visit bbc.co.uk/stargazing.
Anyone planning to attend the Star Party at Wollaton Hall is advised to wear appropriate warm clothing and to bring a torch as some activities are taking place outside. Most of the activities are 'drop in' - but there will be some timed talks - a programme will be provided on the evening.
A car parking charge of £2 will apply.
