Pilot Training

Private Pilots Licence - PPL(H)

Once you have experienced a trial lesson and decided you would like to pursue flight training further, why not obtain your own licence? This will allow you to fly throughout Britain and even Europe if you are adventurous enough. You will be able to hire aircraft from us and other operators and even take your family and friends for flights. There are many airfields throughout the UK and numerous hotels, restaurants and country houses with helicopter landing sites. Your choice for a weekend away is almost unlimited and what better way to arrive at your destination. Your own licence is also a gateway of learning to fly larger and more advanced helicopters if you wish.

The mandatory minimum flight hours for the issue of a PPL(H) is 45 hours flight time of which 25 must be dual instruction and 10 must be supervised solo time. Of these 10 hours solo, 5 hours must be navigational training including a navigational exercise of at least 100 nautical miles. Of the 25 hours dual instruction, 5 hours must be instrument awareness training. The 45 hours are split up into 27 different exercises. On completion of all the flight training you will be required to pass a skills test with our CAA approved Flight Examiner.

Commercial pilots licence - cpl(h)

If you have achieved your PPL(H) and would like to take things a stage further, why not consider obtaining your Commercial Pilots Licence where you can turn your hobby into a career.  We have a great location in the East Midlands and have trained commercial pilots from across the UK and Europe.

Our approved CPL(H) course consists of 30 hours dual flight instruction with the option of a night rating, if required, consisting of a further 5 hours instruction.

In order to commence your CPL(H) course, you need to have achieved the following pre-entry requirements:

You must be aged 18 or over
You must already hold a current PPL(H)
You must have completed 155 hours flying time in helicopters, including 50 hours of Pilot in Command, with 10 of these being cross-country
You must have a current valid pass in all the CPL(H) theoretical knowledge exams
You must hold a CAA Class 1 medical

You will also require an assessment from our Head of Training. This assessment will review your medical, log book, total hours flown, licence, type ratings and any other flying licences that you may hold.  If you would like any further information on our CPL(H) course please contact us.
