Go back in time with Nottingham Contemporary this Jubilee and half term. Get into a flying machine. Watch fascinating local home movie footage from the 1930s to 1970s. Explore the galleries with the artwork of 18th century caricaturist James Gillray and weird and wonderful world of Mika Rottenberg videos. Get interactive with arty workshops every day.

The Family Room: Fantasy Factory Drawings

The Studio. Free
Our Family Room is a chance to draw the workings of your imagination. Galleries 1 and 2 have been transformed into fantasy factories where extraordinary things are made using some very bizarre methods. What would your ‘fantasy factory’ look like? Who would work in it and what would it produce?
Handmade Theatre present: The Flying Machine
Mon 4 June and Tue 5 June, 11am – 3pm

As part of the bank holiday Jubilee celebrations, HandMade Theatre present a unique version of their new ‘Flying Machine’ experience for families inspired by the exhibitions. Come and enjoy a unique interactive adventure travelling through time and space. Get hands on with this exciting installation as you become a member of the crew and help to define the journey you will take. As spaces are limited please book in advance on 0115 948 9750, workshops start at 11, 1 and 2 for 45 minutes.
Film screening: Cipher and the MACE archive: Past Lives

An extraordinary insight into past lives from the 1930s to the 1970s complied from home movies from across the region. The footage includes village fetes, motor racing, dare devil stunts, caravan holidays and steam trains. Drop in to reminisce or share your memories and family stories.

Be inspired by the larger than life characters of Mika Rottenberg’s films and work together to create your own fantasy land for the one and only Queen Raqui. As always, materials, help and idea available in abundance.

Walk past our vast window in gallery 2 and you’ll see Mary Boone advertising some tasty looking artwork made from rubber, lettuce and blusher. Now it’s your turn to advertise your own artwork photographed against a billboard.
