Market Square
Historically, the Old Market Square, right in the heart of Nottingham City Centre, forms a meeting place for the people of Nottingham and is also the location for local events, civic protests, royal visits, celebrations and public mourning.  It was redesigned and reopened in 2007.

Many of Nottingham's most defining moments have occurred here.

St George's Day Festival (Day 3)
25th April 2009

Time:
10.30 am to 4.00 pm

The spectacular finale of the 2009 St George's celebrations will commence at 10.30am with a grand parade from Nottingham Castle leading down into the Old Market Square for the Opening Ceremony.  The Parade will be marshaled by the Grenadier Guards lead by police horses in their full parade outfits, closely followed by shining Knights on both horseback and foot. St George and the dragon for 2009 will be preceded by a clown, slit walkers and the RAF marching band.

This year's St George's Day Parade will also include several local organisations marching behind St George and his entourage as well as a 40 piece Youth Orchestra, scouts groups and the Police Pipe Band.  The Youth Orchestra will continue their performance in the Square.

The Opening Ceremony will be followed by 400 Nottingham scouts pledging their allegiance to the Queen and 240 cubs and beaver scouts pledging their allegiance on the Big Wheel as it reaches dizzy heights way above the Council House.  Throughout the afternoon there will be host of activities and entertainment for all to enjoy, ncluding recreations of medieval sword fighting by costumed knights, clowns, Punch and Judy shows, Maypole dancing, stilt walkers, games and more, plus music from various bands throughout the day.
