Review title : First Visit to Escape, added by : Unknown user (15/03/2010)
Event reviewed : General venue review
"I decied to visit Escape for the first time today with my 2 year old.... to be honest I did see the buiding previously but thought it was a place for older kids / teenagers.
However, I have had a Things to Do card for the past 18 months and after looking on the Things to Do website saw that in fact it was for younger children.
Upon arriving my first impressions were very positive - large, clean, with lots of things to do for a younger child. I was also pleasantly suprised to be told that I could get a free hot drink and soft drink with my receipt (this was in addition to the10% discount I received with my Things to Do card)
Within the building there was two main areas.....The smaller area was for children upto the age of 4 and the larger one for over 4 years of age.
This didn't seem to matter though as children of all ages were in both areas - this did not bother me as it was quiet. It might have done had I got a younger child. I think they should have an area for upto12months as there is a big difference between a crawling baby and an excited 4 year old.
True parents are supposed to supervise their children - but the sad fact is not all parents do (as I witnessed today)
I was able to go into the 'older' section with my daughter which was nice and she had lots of fun with me climbing all over the very large construction and playing with the balls and going through tunnels and down slides etc.
We also went on the go karts together which she enjoyed immensley.
I was a little dissapointed in the 'disco' room - no lights or anything not tht I minded this really but there was supposed to be 'curriculum art activities in there with a qualified person????...... When we went in we were presented with what looked like a page ripped out of a colouring book and some paints.... not quite the level advertised or they perhaps aspire to be at. I think some plain paper, glue, glitter and paints would have been better. To be honest it didn't really matter to me as I thought it was a nice touch all in all - just not true to what Escape advertised.
As my daughter was having lots of fun I decided to stay and have lunch wth her. I was disappointed that the food took about 40 minutes to come to us - especially as it was so quiet.
If I am honest the main thing that let the venue down was the staff and their lack of cheerfulness / efficiency. Maybe it wasn't their fault and they were under staffed. Despite this I would definately visit again and plan to do so. I have already recommended that other friends visit with their children.
What I would say is that if anyone has smaller children go when it is quieter - not on a weekend or during the school holidays.
