Here's our weekend events guide for 9th and 10th March 2019 for things to do in Nottinghamshire.

This weekend, you can enjoy science events at Green's Windmill and Wollaton Hall, learn how to Bhangra, improve your photography skills and dress up for World Book Day!

Celebrate British Science Week at the interactive science centre at Green's Windmill and Science Centre. Get hands on with the things that inspired their
mathematical miller George Green such as light, electricity and magnetism.

Fancy learning how to Bhangra? This high energy dance is fabulous for fitness and you can learn how with award-winning choreographer Vijay Mehay at Nottingham's Council House on Saturday.  You'll need to be aged over 11 to join in and the class will last for 1 hour 30 minutes.

There will be lots of live music, cabaret, exhibitions, discussion panels, keynote speakers, films, live art and auctions of commissioned artwork this Saturday across venues in Hockley, to raise money for Bras Not Bombs (supporting women fleeing war and violence).  Bras Not Bombs International Women's Day will include mass mediation, Global Sistaz World Food and three stages of live music at venues including Carousel, Oscar and Rosies and Rough Trade.  Over 18s only.

There's loads of fun down on at White Post Farm this weekend, where you can have a World Book Day themed day out. Make sure to dress as your favourite story book character to claim a free bag of animal food at the entrance gate! There will be all the usual farm fun to join in with, plus creative activities and competitions. There's always so much to see and do, making it the ideal family fun day out in Nottinghamshire

Kick start your weekend with creative family fun!  Drop in to The New Art Exchange on Saturdays for free creative family fun inspired by the exhibition. Every session is different, with activities ranging from creating collages to building 3D artworks – plus a free family film screening. This coming season, they will be showing The Big Bad Fox and Other Tales, an animated adventure about a misfit group of animals.

You can take part in a relaxed Photo Walk on Sunday at Thoresby Park.  This walk is suitable for photo lovers of all ages, all abilities and all cameras and will give you the chance to have a little creative 'photo me-time' and pick up ideas, hints and tips.  Walks are led by Di Fisher of The Photo Den. Meet at the Courtyard (wearing suitable footwear).

If weddings are on your mind, you should head over to the Newstead Abbey Wedding Fair on Sunday.  With the chance to see the Abbey and it's wedding rooms dressed by local venue stylists and lots of local wedding suppliers to chat to, as well as prosecco, gin and craft beers served on the lawn, this is a great event if you're planning your wedding.  You'll need to pre-register for free entry by emailing: This email address is being protected from spambots. Mike and the Mechanics have sold over 10 million records worldwide and you can see them at Nottingham's Royal Concert Hall on Sunday.  The band now consists of Mike Rutherford, Andrew Roachford and Tim Howar, this show will include new tracks, as well as classic hits.

Slightly further afield but we thought we'd share this with those of you who fancy a little trip.  Codnor Castle Heritage Trust will be holding an Open Day on Sunday.  There will be guided tours of the site at midday and 2pm, there will be Trustees on hand to answer your questions and refreshments will be available in the farmhouse.  Members of the Team Falchion Medieval Group will be there and, weather permitting, there should be weaponry practice by them, in full medieval costume, including armour.

There's free parking in Codnor Market Place (opposite the Poet & Castle: postcode DE5 9QY), and a signposted footpath off Alfreton Road: cross the road outside Wright's butchers, walk a little further down the road and you'll see it. This route takes around 20 minutes to half an hour, depending on the conditions, though it can be boggy in wet weather.
