Here are our recommended events taking place in Nottinghamshire during February Half-Term.  There are plenty of free events, indoor and outdoor activities and family-friendly things to do across the County.

Hundred Hearts Trail
Creswell Crags

In half term week, join us at the Crags to take part in our Hundred Hearts trail, inspired by Valentine’s Day but running all week (14th – 23rd Feb). Search our beautiful site to see if you can find – and count – all 100 hearts! It’s £1.50 to enter and you’ll get a pencil to take home and a small sweet treat at the end! A great way to explore our site.

Our café and museum will be open and we’ll have cave tours running too. You don’t need to book for the trail but if you want to combine it with a tour, we do recommend calling in advance.

Big Bird Watch and Children's Crafts

Join us this February Half Term for a fun, family birdwatching walk followed by bird-themed crafts in the Weir Room.

Walk leaders will be leaving the Heritage Centre at 11am, 11.45am, 12.30, 1.15pm and 2pm. The walks last approximately 30 minutes.

Admission is £1.50 per child and is payable on the day in the Weir Room.

February Family Fest 2020

Nottingham Playhouse

February Family Fest is back!  Their famous Baby Disco returns, as does Messy Play, Circus skills, Drama Games and much more.

Tickets are £6 each unless stated otherwise. For every paying child, one adult accompanies for free and a second adult pays just £2.

National Videogame Museum at Festival of Science and Curiosity

Tell your Story!
New Art Exchange, Nottingham

What would your perfect world look like? In the morning we'll be taking inspiration from Shezad Dawood's Virtual Reality exhibition Encroachments to create our own video-game avatars out of clay and make a 3D world for them to explore out of different materials. We will also visit Dawinder Bansal's exhibition Jambo Cinema and experiment with 'batik', a printing technique used across India and Africa, and create collages using coloured fabrics. Then come together to share our 'virtual worlds' and explore each other's.

Enchanted Fairy Trail
Rufford Abbey Country Park

The favourite magical creatures are back again with a few more surprises for you.  Put on your fairy wings and follow the trail around Rufford Abbey’s Enchanted Forest to discover a world of mystery.  Hunt down the enchanted miniature houses, find the king and queen of the fairies, walk through their wonky archways to find our resident dragon and tell your secrets to Rainbow Sunbeam wishing fairy.

Let your imagination run wild at Rufford Abbey Country park this February half term .

Trail sheets cost £2 and can be purchased on the day at Visitors Reception.

Flight
Lakeside Arts, Nottingham

Here’s one that’s probably not for the faint-hearted.  Flight at Lakeside Arts, takes place in a 40 foot shipping container in complete darkness and basically uses 360 degree sound and sensory effects to scare the heck out of you for half an hour!  From what I can see, you’ll be sitting in an exact replica of a Boeing 707 aeroplane and be taken through two worlds, two realities and two possible outcomes – so you could be lucky and land safely but maybe not!   So, if this sounds like your bag, get yourself tickets which cost £8 and book your flight between 15th and 23rd February.  Because it sounds like a total nightmare, its only suitable for ages over 14 and is not for people with a nervous disposition.

Looking at getting the kids and yourself active? These sessions are aimed at introducing families to climbing safely at Nottingham Climbing Centre. In a small group you will learn how to climb safely both with ropes and without (bouldering). After your 2 hour instructional session you should be competent enough to visit the centre independently as members whenever you wish.

Pre-requisites: Booking essential. Novices welcome. For adults learning to climb with their children – covers use of harness, ropes and bouldering

  • Age range: Any age
  • Duration: 2 hour

  • Climber to Instructor Ratio (maximum): 8 to 1

All specialist equipment (excluding hireable climbing shoes) is provided by the centre and included in the price of the session.

An Afternoon with British Society for the History of Mathematics

Join us at Green’s Windmill & Science Centre for an afternoon jam-packed with fascinating geometry activities and interesting mechanical device demonstrations brought to you by the British Society for the History of Mathematics.

Accessibility Information:

All of the centre and the ground floor of the windmill are accessible to visitors in wheelchairs, as are the toilets. Visitors with restricted mobility can avoid the short flight of steps from the car park to the windmill by calling in advance to arrange parking in the mill yard.

The Chicago Blues Brothers

Sherwood Forest

Fancy a family day out with a difference?

Do you want to do your bit for nature and the environment, and make a lasting contribution to the forest? Join in our free family volunteering day planting trees at Sherwood! This session aims to give you a chance to plant your own trees around our visitor centre, and make a real impact for the future. The session will last no longer than two hours to keep the little ones interested, and you will be given the tools and instructions needed to plant your own trees. The trees are young and suitable for small hands.

Don’t forget to take some photos and come back to see how your trees are growing!
