Looking for something to do on the run-up to Christmas in Nottinghamshire?

There are plenty of special Christmas events taking place throughout the County, as well as lots to do at our favourite visitor attractions, including White Post Farm, Sundown Adventureland, the National Justice Museum and the City of Caves.  Head down to Nottingham's magnificent National Ice Centre, where there is lots of holiday fun for the whole family, including Christmas skating parties, or Nottingham's Winter Wonderland!

Nottingham's Winter Wonderland will return to the Old Market Square, with an outdoor ice rink, French ski lodge, traditional fairground rides and a Bavarian-style Christmas market.  There will be lots of entertainment throughout the Christmas period and plenty of food and drink to keep the cold out.

Don't miss the spectacular Christmas event The Night Before Christmas at Sundown Adventureland, when the park is converted into a Winter Wonderland.  Climb aboard one of Santa's sleighs and take a magical journey through the enchanted forest.  Meet Santa and find out whether you're on the Naughty or Nice list.  Meet dancing bears, get up close to the Reindeers and meet the Snow Queen.  Enjoy chestnuts and non-alcoholic mulled wine in The Market Place, as well as all the usual rides and attractions.

White Post Christmas at White Post Farm.  Explore the Winter Wonderland Walkthrough, build a snowman, do Christmas Crafts and meet Santa in his grotto.  Take part in the traditional nativity play, meet the reindeer and check out the Mistletoads in the Reptile House.  So much festive fun for the whole family.

Find all the candy canes as you walk around Wollaton Hall Natural History Museum in the Candy Cane Trail.  When you have found them and revealed the seasonal word, head back to the Museum shop to claim your prize.

Robin Hood and the Babes in the Wood at Nottingham Playhouse. The ultimate pantomime villain, the Sheriff hatches a wicked plan to get rid of his niece and nephew, the Babes in the Wood, and claim their fortune. It’s down to Robin Hood to save the day and stop the Sheriff with a little help from his Merry Men and Maid Marian. Enjoy plenty of songs, dance, laughter and sumptuous costumes in our traditional family-friendly panto by Kenneth Alan Taylor.

The Mansfield One Call ice rink will be in town over the festive period, bringing daily sessions and starlit skating evenings to Mansfield. You can find it outside the Old Town Hall.

Christmas Tree Festival at St Mary Magdelene Parish Church in Newark. One of the most enchanting highlights of Newark's Christmas calendar, the St Mary Magdalene Church Christmas Tree Festival is back for its 11th year.  Marvel at more than 100 trees festooned with imaginative decorations by local school, organisations and businesses as they adorn the aisles of the magnificent Newark Parish Church.  On your visit, you can also enjoy refreshments and music, as well as the chance to peruse Christmas cards for sale and festive stalls.

Peter Pan at Nottingham's Theatre Royal. Take a fairy tale flight to Neverland this Christmas in the swashbuckling family adventure Peter Pan. Join their high-flying hero as he transports the Darlings on an adventure they will never forget full of evil pirates, the lost boys, a very hungry crocodile and the meanest man in Neverland, Captain Hook. Comedian and actor JoePasquale will lead the cast in the role of Smee, with John Challis (Only Fools and Horses) as Captain Hook.

Once upon a time there was a young girl who went to spend the night at Grandma’s house … and her little brother came too. She just wanted to go to sleep but he was excited and wouldn’t settle down. To help lull him to sleep, the young girl promised to tell her brother a story. But when you start acting out your favourite fairytale, who knows what’s in store?!

Join the intrepid twosome on a night to remember in Olivier award-winning writer Mike Kenny’s adaption of this classic children’s tale. With music and songs from Julian Butler (Charlie and Lola), Red Riding Hood returns to Lakeside after premiering here in 2011, and promises to be a magical treat for families this Christmas.

The Elves and the Shoemaker at Nottingham Playhouse. Clara the shoemaker is very poor and only has one piece of leather left to make some shoes to sell. She carefully cuts out the pieces of leather before going to bed, ready to make them into a pair of shoes in the morning. The next morning… what’s this? The pieces of leather are gone and, in their place, is the most beautiful pair of shoes in the world. Clara sells the shoes, buys more leather and cuts out the pieces ready for the next day and the same thing happens again… another pair of exquisite shoes. But who is making them? And what might they want in return?

Carols in the Great Hall: Girl Choristers in the State Chamber at Southwell Minster. Britten’s wonderful Ceremony of Carols combines sacred and secular texts of a seasonal flavour. His inimitable setting of these medieval texts for high voices and harp is wonderfully sung by the Girl Choristers of Southwell Minster, directed by Simon Hogan.  On 7 December, hear these pieces combined with seasonal readings, and on 9 December alongside other seasonal choral music, a chance to sing along, and festive drink and nibbles.

Steampunkalia - a Splendid Steampunk Celebration of Christmas will be at the Nottingham Industrial Museum at Wollaton Park this weekend.  If you're a fan of steampunk, this is the event for you.  Diesel and steam engines will be running and a steampunk craft fair in the Great Hall.

13th December:

BBC Radio Nottingham Carol Service at Southwell Minster.  
Join BBC Radio Nottingham for an evening of traditional carols with the Cathedral Choir, the Nottingham Hospitals Choir and Revival Gospel Choir. Blidworth Welfare Band will also be performing.  The service will be recorded to be broadcast on BBC Radio Nottingham on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.  For more information about tickets please listen to BBC Radio Nottingham.

Little ones can Mess Around with fun activities like reindeer dust, Brussel sprout rolling and candy cane rice, or get messy with our festive treats such as angel foam, Santa goo and Christmas pud. All your have to do is come along and Mess Around, and leave the cleaning up to them!  The event is suitable for children aged 6 months (or sitting unaided) to 5 years old. They can’t promise snow this Christmas, but Nottingham's National Ice Centre can promise foam at their Christmas Foam Party.

Festive food and seasonal drinks will be available throughout the afternoon and evening in the Sub Zero café, giving you plenty of time to dry off whilst enjoying a nice cup of hot chocolate with marshmallows!

There are two parties to choose from. The Christmas Family Foam Party is great foamy fun for all the family, whilst at theirChristmas Club Foam Party, they’ll be turning down the lights, aiming the foam cannon and turning up the music. Family Eucharist at Southwell Minster.  Their principal Eucharist on Christmas Day includes music sung by the Girl Choristers of the Cathedral Choir, as well as wellknown Christmas hymns. Junior Church is available for younger members of the congregation.

Elf a Christmas Spectacular, the hit West End and Broadway musical based on the Hollywood blockbuster movie, will be at Nottingham's Motorpoint Arena this December.  Starring pop legend David Essex as Buddy the Elf’s father, and Love Actually star and singer Martine McCutcheon as Buddy’s girlfriend, Jovie. Buddy the Elf will be played by comedy actor Tam Ryan, who counts Priscilla Presley amongst his past leading ladies. West End star Louise English will play Buddy’s stepmother. The cast also features Father Christmas and a line-up of 70 performers, including children from local Pauline Quirke Academy stage schools.

See in the New Year with a free party in Nottingham's Market Square.  There will be live entertainment in Sur La Piste until 10.30 p m, when Capital FM DJ Steve Matthews takes to the decks to play some of the best songs of 2018, as well as classic party anthems.

As the bells of the Council House chime midnight, the Square will light up with a pyrotechnic display, followed by a massed rendition of Auld Lang Syne
